WELCOME to edition of Sekhukhune This Week

THE word exciting may be an understatement as one looks at what is in store for the people of Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality (GSDM).

Firstly, our executive mayor Cllr Namane Masemola and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Limpopo Tourism and Park Benny Boshielo launched the Sekhukhune Regional Tourism Association (RTA) this week.

The RTA is not only the inaugural structure of its kind in the district, but also the first in the whole of Limpopo province.

It means there will be very aggressive planning and marketing of local tourism products, and the spin-offs thereof need not be over-emphasised. Think about the revenue to be generated and job creation.

Moreover, the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy (PGDS) identifies tourism amongst mining and agriculture as the pillars of Limpopo’s economy.

So, there are good times indeed that await tourism entrepreneurs.

The formation of Sekhukhune Development Agency (Seda) is also gaining momentum. Next month, begins the stakeholders’ consultative meeting on the by-law to establish this service utility. Seda will be a vehicle identifying and implementing high impact economic projects.

Let us not forget this. Humble individuals who took part in our liberation are soon going to be exalted.

Our Executive Mayor has begun talks with the CEO of Freedom Park about engraving the names of these heroes and heroines in the wall of the Freedom Park Garden of Remembrance as part of the 50th Anniversary of the
Sekhukhune Uprisings.

Let us hope and breathe a sigh of relief as the path ahead of us clears. Tomorrow comes after the dark.

Thanks.
