Sekhukhune This Week

A few years ago, foresighted managers of Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality (GSDM) hammered out a plan to transform the economic shape of the district by 2025.

The objectives of this vision were to identify untapped economic areas and unlock their potential to bring about lasting development in one of the poorest districts in the country – a Presidential nodal point.

The Sekhukhune 2025 Growth and Development Strategy says that the ultimate aim is to transform Sekhukhune district into a business centre with services and standards of living on par with capitals of the developed world.

This is obviously work in progress. A mammoth task still lies ahead. The report has been completed and will be launched soon.

In the next coming weeks, we will be taking you though it step by step so that you understand what the report says about the potential in the three backbones of our economy – which are agriculture, mining and tourism.

In this week’s edition we kick off with agriculture. We are taking a cursory look at the issues reflected in Sekhukhune 2025 Growth and Development Strategy report.

This is another endeavour to bring you up-to-date with happenings in our district.
