Cllr Matlala brings a unique and refreshing style to the Sekhukhune District Municipality. Not only is she a great speaker but also a magnetic and valued member of our team.
Cllr Matlala was born on the 09 May 1955 in a village called Matome, in Zebediela.
She attended primary school and Grade 8 in Matome.
The rest of her high school years were then spent in Matladi High School before leaving for Johannesburg and recieving employment at Sandton Clinic as an assistant nurse.
In 1985, a strong and charismatic Cllr Martha was recruited to join the UDM by her mother Lydia Komape who is an MPL in the Limpopo Province. she worked under ground in Alexandra at a women's hostel as she was living there.
In 1986 she joined the Rural Women's Movement which assisted her in recruiting more women for the ANC while it was banned and then in 1996, this devoted fighter for womens rights established the Moutse Community Radio station which aimed at providing underpriveledged women with essential information, as most of them were not educated, to empower them.
In 1990 after the unbanning of the ANC she was elected the chairperson of her local ANC branch in Mpheleng were she relocated to in 1986. In 1995, showing amazing leadership skills, Cllr Martha was elected the Deputy Mayor of Moutse TLC right up until 2000.
In the year 2006 she was elected again as the speaker of the Sekhukhune District Municipality, a position she occupies with great effeciency to this very date.
