Phase 2A: De Hoop Dam progress report
- The planning phase has been completed
- The Environmental Management Plan (EMPs) for the De Hoop Dam and R555 Realignment have been conditionally approved by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT)
- The Environmental Management Programmes (EMPRs) for the De Hoop Dam Borrow Pit and Dam Quarry have been approved by the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME)
- The Environmental Control Officer (ECO) is on site
- The Tender Design of the De Hoop Dam has been completed
- The Authorities Co-ordinating Committee (ACC) and the Environmental Monitoring Committee (EMC) have been established
- The Chairperson of the EMC has been appointed
- Plant Relocation was undertaken by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI)
- A total of 61 graves have been relocated from the priority area with consent of their next of kin (affected parties)
- The project Archaeologist is presently on site as construction has commenced. A significant find was made recently, close to the planned works area. It has been demarcated as a “no-go” area until the Archaeologist has concluded its preliminary work on the site
