Samson Manage Makunyane was appointed on 1st October 2009 as the Municipal Manager of the Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality. Makunyane was born in 1967 at Mpelegane in the precinct where De Hoop Dam is currently built.
He grew in Tubatse and Makhuduthamaga areas of Sekhukhune where he completed his secondary education at Shorwane High School and later his tertiary odyssey took shape at Sekhukhune College of Education where he graduated in 1991 and proceeded to the University of South Africa where he learned the mastery of Communications.
He joined Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality in December 2005 as Assistant Manager: Communications, he assiduously transformed the Communications Unit into the multi-award winning Communications Department.

In 2007, while serving as the Acting Director of the new Communications Department, Sekhukhune District was awarded the Local Ubungcweti and ultimate Government Communicator of the Year 2007.

This was followed by scooping of Local Bua and Local Ubungcweti Awards in 2008. After dramatic shake-up in the political landscape of the District and the province of Limpopo that saw the former Municipal Manager - Ishmael Kgetjepe joining the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, Makunyane was appointed to serve as Acting Municipal Manager. He held this position until October 01 2009, when the Council of Sekhukhune District Municipality endorsed his appointment to serve as Municipal Manager for a five-year term. He is already steadfast in implementing a major turn-around strategy.
