Words from our Executive Mayor –
Councillor Namane Dickson Masemola

“In our march towards the “new world” and the new beginning which we have already embarked upon, the masses of our people are not only actors in the enactment of this enchanting and righteous drama, but they are also the directors and engineers which gives this drama its humane content and proper direction.”

The following key objectives are our roadmap to sustainable development:

  • Development of Institutional capacity geared towards efficient services delivery.
  • Development of an effective and efficient financial management system that ensures financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Facilitate access to land for development.
  • Develop sustainable land use framework.
  • Maximize economic growth through developing local economic opportunities and facilitate community empowerment.
  • Develop Integrated Infrastructure that support social development and economic growth.
  • Implementation of effective communication framework to inform internal and external clients.
  • Enhancement of community participation and ownership of Municipal programmes.
  • Strengthen a framework of co-ordinating governance structure and sound intergovernmental relations.

In order to strengthen our capacity to carry out the mandate our people gave us, the Council has adopted numerous policies and procedures, which continue to guide the District in its endeavor to accelerate service delivery. To name but just a few, we have adopted a:-
  • Policy on Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Bursary Policy.
  • Policy on the Employment Equity.
  • Policy on Overtime.

In line with the State President’s demand for a dynamic Public service that is responsive and committed to the national agenda and the needs of our people, we have also contracted our Management to performance and this shall cascade to the lower levels of the organization to enhance good performance.

In conclusion our efforts to deliver a better life to our people could be in vain without the invaluable support of the District staff and officials, the Council, Political support from both Provincial and National government as well as the various organs of civil society including, the business sector, traditional leaders and most of all the people of the District in whose mandate and on whose behalf we are all here today.

May God bless you all and continue to shower us with His divine waters.
